I'm a member because I want to see the day that counselors in the state of Michigan can be eligible for reimbursement for Blue Cross Blue Shields.
I have been a MCA member since 1988. This organization has helped establish within me a sense of pride as a counselor. The counselors that came before me, worked hard to get parity with other professionals through our licensure bill. I will forever be grateful for their efforts and feel a sense of responsibility to carry on that tradition with MCA in whatever capacity I am able to. That is in part why I will remain a member of MCA.
I am a member of MCA so that I can keep up with legislation action, network with other counselors and find great resources and referrals for the families that I work with.
I am a MCA member because there is strength in numbers and I am insulted that MBCBS does not view LPCs as professionals and therefore will not panel us!!! We need to change that folks.
I am a MCA member because we need to get the word out that we are on par with other professionals in the mental health field and deserve to be treated with the same respect and insurance reimbursement privileges.
I am a member of MCA because I believe there is strength in numbers and that if we are to grow as a profession we need to work together to advance our common interests. I also believe that there is value in sharing knowledge and networking with peers to improve the quality and delivery of the services we provide. And of course I want to go after BCBSM too:) As I see it, the only way we are going to be taken as a serious player in the mental health field, is if we take it seriously and respond and act professionally and consistently over time.
I am a member for the legislative advocacy of counselors, conferences and networking opportunities.
I am a member because it is imperative that counselors have a professional organization in Michigan that advocates for who we are and what we do. This is not something individual counselors can accomplish...it takes a group effort. Without it, we will never be taken seriously.
I am a member of MCA because the organization provides a lot of valuable networking opportunities and resources while I am in graduate school earning my degree.
I am just starting out as a counselor and am looking both for support as a professional in the field, and an understanding of the issues professional counselors face, particularly in Michigan. Given the comments I've read so far, having an organization for counselors in Michigan is an imperative!
I've been a member of MCA for 16+ years, first as a student member, then a professional member, then an active leader in the school counseling division.
PROFESSIONAL ADVOCACY FOR IMPORTANT COUNSELING LEGISLATION & ADMINISTRATIVE POLICIES; SUPERB CONFERENCES FOR ONGOING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT; WONDERFUL PERSONAL/PROFESSIONAL CONNECTIONS; AND CAREER OPPORTUNITIES.
I am a member of the MCA because I am a recent grad and am new to the field of college counseling. I realize the importance of forming relationships with fellow counselors working in higher education. Also, as mentioned previously achieving recognition from other helping fields and insurance companies will become a reality from a group not by a single individual.
I'm a member of MCA because I want to see our profession grow strong, and present a unified front to the world with our own standards of practice and ethics, our own view of the client based on the concepts of wellness and empowerment; and be recognized as productive, knowledgeable and reliable contributing members of the health care community.
Good news! ACA is willing to help us with the insurance issues in Michigan. Please contact me for further details.
As a newer member to MCA and new professional in the field, I'm a member to build connections and grow the profession in Pure Michigan!
